What is LENS Neurofeedback?

LENS Neurofeedback is a form of low energy technology that holds up a mirror to the central nervous system helping it to re-organize itself. The way it does this is by taking preexisting waves in our system, both brain and body, and seeking out the highest amplitude wave it can find.

In a matter of seconds, it has located the highest amplitude wave, copied it and sent it back to the brain or part of the body. The reason the system seeks out the highest amplitude wave is that high amplitude is correlated to low functioning.

Knowing we are electrical beings and that we have electrical frequencies within us helps to understand why small doses of electrical frequencies are used in this form of “neurotherapy”. The lens system only utilizes 0.000000000000000001 watts/cm2 to perform its “magic”. That equals to 1 trillionth of a watt, which is millions of times lighter in intensity of frequency than holding a phone to your ear.

These electrical frequencies being mirrored back to the brain help to lift what is called “suppression”. Suppression means that there is suppressed activity in a certain area of the brain that can cause diverse symptoms. In short, it compromises functioning. This suppression can be caused by bumps to the head, aversive life experiences, medications, environmental influences, etc.

Think of it like this. There are things in our life, such as trauma, that cause accidents on the “highway” of optimal functioning. This creates jams and blockages (aka suppression) that make the brain create detours. These detours are never as effective. The LENS system helps to lift these blockages, clearing the debris so that we may return to the traditional highway of optimal functioning.
