Hi, I’m Marcela!

Supervised by Candice Tillman, LPC-S

Supervised by Lauren Spaulding, LMFT-S

I earned my Masters of Education in Marriage Couple & Family Counseling at Lamar University and my Bachelors of Science in Psychology at the University of Houston (GO COOGS)! As a trauma therapist, I am passionate about helping my clients navigate the ups and downs of life.

Growing up in Venezuela and then moving to Houston at the age of nine has given me a unique perspective on multiculturalism. As a result, I have a special spot for clients who are navigating their identity while respecting and acknowledging all aspects of themselves.

I believe that each of us is the ultimate expert on our own life, which is why I take a client-centered approach in my work. In therapy, I provide empathy, harmony, and unconditional positive regard to each individual client. Together, we will walk side by side through their journey of self-discovery and becoming the person they are meant to be.

I cherish supporting clients as they learn to come home to themselves. Sometimes, the coping mechanisms we learn to adapt and survive can prevent us from listening to our bodies and lead to burnout, exhaustion, anxiety, and depression. I love working with clients to tune inwards and create internal safety after experiencing trauma in their life.

Families are important to me, and I focus on looking at the family as a whole system. In therapy, we will work on effective communication, building connection, establishing healthy boundaries, and promoting problem-solving skills to help families function better as a unit.

As a trauma therapist, I understand the emotional impact that traumatic experiences can have on our lives. That’s why I specialize in working with adults, children, and teens who have gone through trauma and other distressing symptoms. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where my clients can feel heard, seen, and validated.

I’ve received Level One training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitizing Reprocessing (EMDR).. I use both these models in helping them find peace within themselves by exploring and understanding the various parts of their internal system. This approach allows for a deep and transformative process, facilitating healing and promoting inner harmony.

Additionally, as a certified EMDR parent-child specialist, I’ve received additional training in Attachment-Informed EMDR, focusing on healing intergenerational wounds and repairing the parent-child attachment bond. I’m passionate about helping my clients heal from past wounds and build stronger, healthier relationships.

In addition to EMDR and IFS, I like to use other modalities to access different parts of the brain, such as creative arts, sand tray, and play therapy. I find working with children to be refreshing and rewarding, especially those struggling with perfectionistic tendencies, trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety, and panic attacks.

If you have any questions about me, trauma therapy, or counseling at our office, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to speaking with you and helping you on your journey toward healing and personal growth.
