Hi, I’m Julia!

Originally from South Carolina, I have made Houston my home for the past six years. As a licensed professional counselor associate (LPC-A), I bring not only my extensive clinical experience but also my personal insight as a devoted mother of two active children. This dual perspective enriches my therapeutic practice, allowing me to approach each family with compassion, patience, and a deep respect for their unique stories. Parenting has profoundly influenced my therapeutic style, fostering a genuine personal connection that helps my clients feel truly seen, heard, and supported.

While I enjoy working with clients across the lifespan, my passion lies in supporting adolescents, teens, and parents navigating the complexities of family dynamics. I firmly believe that healing happens through relationships, and strengthening family connections is central to my work.

Supporting Children

My clinical experience includes specialized training in child centered play therapy, which I integrate into my therapeutic interventions with younger children. Recognizing that children often express themselves beyond words, I employ creative, play-based, and movement-oriented approaches that foster emotional awareness and communication skills. These evidence-based practices provide children with a safe space to explore their feelings, build self-esteem, and develop confidence naturally and engagingly.

Children facing anxiety disorders, mood disorders, behavioral challenges, or difficulty adjusting to major life transitions benefit from my client centered therapy approach. I tailor my therapeutic services to meet each child’s developmental needs, using techniques rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and emotionally focused therapy. By fostering a trusting therapeutic relationship, I help children develop effective coping strategies that support their mental health and personal growth.

Supporting Teens

Adolescence is a critical period marked by identity development, social pressures, and academic stress. My work with teens focuses on providing a grounded, collaborative therapeutic space where they can slow down, feel heard, and begin to make sense of who they are becoming. I support young adults grappling with emotional dysregulation, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges, offering practical solutions that empower them to navigate life transitions with greater clarity and confidence.

My therapeutic style incorporates elements of dialectical behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy to help teens build resilience and emotional regulation skills. I understand the tension teens often feel between growing independence and external expectations, and I use a client centered approach to foster self discovery and self compassion. This approach not only addresses immediate mental health concerns but also promotes long-term well-being.

Partnering with Parents

Parenting can be both rewarding and challenging, often accompanied by feelings of confusion, exhaustion, and isolation. My role as a family therapist includes partnering with parents to deepen their understanding of their child’s emotional world. I provide practical strategies grounded in family systems theory and family therapy principles that are tailored to each family’s unique dynamics. If you’re interested in more support navigating the challenges of parenting, helpful resources are available.

My approach is collaborative and strengths-based, emphasizing that therapy is not about fixing anyone but about fostering healing and growth within the family unit. I support parents in developing effective communication skills and coping strategies that enhance their relationships and create a supportive environment for their children. By offering mental health support that respects each family’s culture, values, and experiences, I help parents feel more connected, confident, and equipped in their parenting journey.
