Hi, I’m Claire!
Supervised by Brittani Persha, LCSW-S
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) originally from Oklahoma City, now based in Houston since early 2023. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2015 with a degree in Communications, and after teaching 4th grade and Kindergarten, I discovered my passion for working with children and families. This led me to pursue a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 2019.
My journey into social work began while I was teaching 4th grade in Oklahoma City. Although I enjoyed teaching, I quickly realized I wanted to provide more holistic support to my students, but lacked the time and resources to do so. I was fortunate to meet the school social worker, who showed me the tremendous impact she had on students by offering individualized mental health support and resources. Her work inspired me to shift my focus to social work, where I could have a broader, more meaningful impact.
Throughout my career, I have supported individuals and families coping with psychological trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and behavioral challenges. I am deeply committed to providing holistic care, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, physicians, case managers, and legal professionals, to ensure that clients receive comprehensive, personalized treatment.
I have had the privilege of working in a variety of settings, including as a Pediatric Social Work Counselor at MD Anderson, where I provided emotional support and psycho-social assessments for pediatric oncology patients and their families. As a School-Based Therapist, I worked with elementary students facing challenges such as ADHD, trauma, anxiety, and depression. In my role as an Infant Early Childhood Mental Health Clinician, I offered mental health consultation to early childhood educators while supporting families through grief, trauma, and behavioral concerns.
I have also gained extensive experience working with children in therapeutic settings, including play therapy. This has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career, as it allows children to express themselves and process emotions in a safe, supportive environment. Play therapy provides a unique opportunity for children to communicate through creative expression rather than words alone. Through play, children explore their feelings, develop coping skills, and work through trauma in ways that feel natural and empowering. Witnessing the resilience and growth of the children I work with continues to inspire me and reinforces my belief in the power of play as a therapeutic tool. Not only does play therapy facilitate healing, but it also allows children to do so while having fun!
My approach to social work is grounded in evidence-based practices, cultural competence, and a strong commitment to promoting the mental and emotional well-being of children, adolescents, caregivers, and families. I am passionate about building trusting relationships with clients, creating a safe and empathetic environment for healing and growth.
