Caroline Best
Practicum Student
Hi, I’m Caroline!
I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary and am working toward my LPC-Associate license. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development, with a minor in Communication, from The University of Texas at Austin.
Before beginning my clinical training, I worked as a certified Texas educator teaching students from pre-kindergarten through middle school and became a Classroom Storytelling specialist through Rice University Literacy. I have also mentored middle and high school students through various organizations. These experiences, along with more than 10 years of professional and volunteer work with children, adolescents, and young adults, deepened my passion for helping others feel known, valued, and supported.
As a native Houstonian, I bring a warm, grounded, and relational presence to my work with clients. I believe healing happens through safe, authentic, and emotionally connected relationships. My goal with every client is to create a therapeutic space where they feel safe, seen, soothed, and secure. From a compassionate, nonjudgmental foundation, I help clients make sense of their stories and move toward healing and growth.

I am especially passionate about working with children, adolescents, and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, perfectionism, relational challenges, life transitions, and identity development. I also support clients with emotional and behavioral regulation, school-related concerns, boundary setting, parent-child challenges, and the impact of attachment wounds and intergenerational patterns
My counseling approach is rooted in a person-centered, attachment-based framework. I integrate evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), existential therapy, and creative interventions tailored to each client’s unique needs. I work holistically, considering the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of well-being.
When working with children, I primarily use a non-directive, person-centered play therapy approach. I believe children communicate naturally through play, and I strive to create a safe and trusting environment where they can explore their feelings and make sense of their world at their own pace. At times, I incorporate art activities, games, and therapeutic books to support specific goals and developmental needs.
It is a privilege to walk alongside clients and their families as they grow in resilience, self-understanding, and hope!
