Hi, I’m Betsy!

Supervised by Stephanie Farugia, LMFT

Hi, I’m Betsy!

I am pursuing my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of St. Thomas. I joined Brittani Persha Counseling as a part of my internship to obtain licensure and become a Licensed Professional Counselor. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in psychology with a minor in sociology. My husband and I recently moved to Houston from Tulsa, Oklahoma. We have dog named Ollie and love to spend time at local parks!

I approach therapy with a humanistic style. This means that I value each person in an unbiased and empathetic way. I do my best to meet clients with compassion right where they are in life. I believe that everyone has the solutions to their problems within themselves. However, sometimes we need help finding it and therapy can be a guide for healing, growth, and self-discovery.

I work with clients to accomplish their goals by not only focusing on the issue, but also using their own strength and resources to help them make a successful plan. I believe that our well-being is influenced by many factors, so I incorporate all aspects of my client’s life in treatment.

When it comes to therapy with children, I believe that using play is one of the best ways for them to express themselves. After working with kids for over 5 years in a childcare setting, I have learned how to connect to them in a meaningful way and understand their developmental needs. My main goal when working with children is to find ways for them to express themselves and teach them how to regulate their bodies and emotions. When working with kids, I always incorporate the family system as it is an important part of the therapeutic process. I believe that intervention during childhood is the best course of action to help kids develop healthy habits as they grow.

I am interested in working with people of all demographics. However, I have a particular interest in working with children, teens, neurodiverse clients, and the LGBTQ+ community. Throughout my sessions, I use talk therapy, play therapy, and Thera-play. I love working with people to discover what makes them unique, allow them to be more in tune with themselves, and help them connect with others. One way that I do this is by integrating the enneagram personality types and attachment styles as a part of the therapeutic process. I incorporate creative and expressive aspects into therapy sessions such as art, writing, music, books, and sand-tray.

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you!
