Child and Adolescent Therapist
I am a child and adolescent therapist who specializes in working with children and teens who are having difficulty succeeding in school or in relationships because of behavior or mental health concerns. I work with families of children and teens struggling with ADHD, behavioral issues, trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, and disruptions to normal functioning including death, divorce, accidents, natural disasters, or family separation.
Education and Experience
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Michigan State University and my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin.
I have worked as a school social worker in elementary and high schools throughout Houston for several years. I currently work in a Houston-area High School providing therapeutic services to teens and families.
I am trained and experienced in assessing and treating trauma in children, adolescents, and adults, utilizing developmentally and culturally appropriate methods. Children often use play to cope with or move through trauma. I offer children a safe space to play freely and work through their experiences with a caring and trauma-informed adult.
I am also experienced in assessment and treatment of ADHD. I work with families and children to identify ADHD symptoms and help develop skills and strategies to improve behavior and functioning at home and at school.
I believe that each child has unique strengths and needs, so I utilize a variety of creative and expressive therapeutic approaches. Some of my favorite methods are sand tray therapy, art therapy, play therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, narrative therapy, bibliotherapy, and CBT.
I am a strong believer in the power of the therapeutic relationship to inspire change. I develop a feeling of safety, trust, unconditional acceptance, and confidentiality in every session. In the safety of our offices, children and teens can develop healthy ways of coping while feeling cared about and understood.
At BPC, we believe in working closely with parents and including you in the therapeutic process. We help you better understand your child’s behavior and support you in helping them cope with difficult emotions. We will help you feel more connected to your child or teen and strengthen family bonds, which will lead to long-lasting change.
