I am a Licensed Professinal Counselor-Intern. I have a BS in Psychology from Texas A&M University and an MA in Counseling from Sam Houston State University. My experience includes working with individuals and families in nonprofit, university, and private practice settings. I believe that each person is wired for connection to others and has a desire to be known. I also believe that each of my clients has the capacity for personal growth and change. My emphasis is on the therapeutic relationship and providing a safe and empathetic space for clients to heal and grow.
When working with children, I primarily operate from a child-centered approach. Through the child’s natural language of play, I work directly with the child and incorporate parent/guardian involvement into the therapeutic process. Among other benefits, I have found play therapy to be effective in developing problem-solving skills, improving and/or developing communication skills, expressing emotions, modifying or adjusting behaviors, and improving social skills. My therapy services with teens include talk therapy, play therapy, and hands on activities depending on the needs of the individual child. I meet each child and family exactly where they are developmentally and emotionally.
When working with adults, I bring a person-centered approach to the session. I believe that a genuine and positive therapeutic relationship is essential to treatment. Through my empathetic nature, I create a space that is non-judgmental and exploratory in order to effectively bring about healing. By seeking to understand each client’s experience of the world, I recognize the strengths of the individual and work within those existing strengths to help the client process their experiences and implement change. My professional experience with adults includes treating depression, anxiety, relationships, trauma, and addictions. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly.
